The writing contest, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, gives high school and college students a safe space to creatively explore their personal experiences with race and discrimination.

The awards ceremony is open to the public and a great event that brings together the Pittsburgh community. The student winners will read their essays and poetry and receive their recognition from awards founder and director — and acclaimed poet and author — Jim Daniels.

Veteran’s Day is all about honoring those who have served in the United States Military. Because serving requires intense commitment and dedication, veterans’ families are also impacted greatly.

Since 1994, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) has offered compassionate care to those grieving the loss of a family member who died while serving our nation. TAPS’ global work includes grief and counseling resources, mentoring programs and survivor seminars.
